On 24th March 2017, Katerina Player and her friend headed to Zambia to volunteer at a school located in Mukuni village, close to Livingstone for 2 weeks, alongside ‘The Butterfly Tree’ charity.
They taught at the school and helped at the clinic for new-mothers and their babies. Katherine and her friend arrived with suitcases full of much needed supplies, having raised money and collecting donations of books, stationary and learning materials from colleagues, friends and family, which they distributed to the children.
The Butterfly Tree, an all-volunteer organisation, works with the public schools and clinics alongside the Zambian government through the generous support of their volunteers and donors. The community heavily relies on this support as the area has a high prevalence of both malaria and HIV. The charity, registered in both the UK and in Zambia is currently working on a number of initiatives including a far reaching malaria project. All donations go directly to the cause - no administration fees are deducted.
